- Dr Martha Eddy
Rev. Dr. Margaret Ruth Eddy, my mother, would have turned 98 this Halloween. Although she lived only to 63, her passion for community service and wellness in East Harlem inspired me to create Moving For Life. Through our programs, we honor her legacy each day, reaching thousands affected by cancer, chronic illness, aging, and life’s challenges. From 1948 to 1990, she dedicated herself to empowering others. She was a pioneering pastor and counselor in East Harlem, launching women's health education programs, leading one of the first community counseling centers, and creating initiatives to help women take charge of their health and future. Her work uplifted countless lives, fostering resilience and community. Moving For Life carries forward her mission, offering health education, movement, and emotional support that help ease pain, build confidence, and inspire healthy living for families across generations. Here, we continue the legacy of personal and embodied healing—a safe space for all to grow and thrive.
