A story from an MFL Participant…

I just wanted to give you a praise report.

I had been praying for an exercise program for months when I went to the Breast Cancer Breakfast last October 2023 for NY Presbyterian Queens which is my breast center. The gentleman from MFL, Tom I believe, invited some of us survivors to join in an exercise session. I joined and had the best time so I started doing the Zoom classes online Monday-Friday. I got to dance with Tatiana, Evelyn, Sherry, Ana, Martha, and a few others I am still getting to know.

Well, one year later, on October 10, 2024, I accomplished a goal I have had for a while which was to once again do the Making Strides Breast Cancer walk at Flushing Meadows Corona Park. I not only finished the two mile walk, I did the entire walk without my cane and used everything I learned, the rolling the feet as you walk, breath through your nose out through the mouth for deeper breathing. I even used some of the dance steps as I dodged people, weaving seamlessly through the crowds.

I am so grateful because I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, left side, which spread to the lymph nodes under my left arm which gave me lymphedema, shoulder to tip of my fingers. It returned in 2017 going to the bones and I have been on chemo ever since, every three weeks for seven years. I had broken my ankle in 2014 and used a cane ever since. Last Sunday, I walked without my cane for two miles without stopping at a good pace, if I do say so myself, and I know God was with me, but so were all of you, my MFL community family.

Thank you so much for giving us all a safe place to dance it out, talk it out, and just breathe.

MFL Teachers and Staff are grateful to support folks in their journey to health!
