Workshops at Moving for Life's Studio 55C, NYC:

Developmental Movement
Saturday and Sunday, March 24th and 25th, 12-6pm
Instructors: Dana Davison & Mandy Chan
Workshop Fee: $300
(Fulfills all 10-12 credits hrs. of DM requirement)

Go back to the beginning, from cells to pre-birth, with a basic introduction to embryology from a Body-Mind Centering® perspective, to our earliest memories of our very creation, and see how it informs our movement patterns today. Move from newborn to one-year-old patterns, experiencing the relational cycle of yield, push, reach and pull, as well as the Series One developmental movement exercises, also from the work of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen. Practice adult forms through limb relationships and integration, bringing Irmgard Bartenieff into the mix, as we practice and apply these teachings to MFL.

Unravelling the Stress Response
Saturday, April 7th, 12-2pm
Instructors: Dana Davison and Mandy Chan
Workshop Fee: $60
(Fulfills 2 credit hrs. of EP/BS requirement)

Calming the nervous system through a guided experiential meditation, bringing awareness to the adrenal glands and kidneys through hands on self-care, and moving the whole body with different rhythms and dynamics all provide support for a healthy bodily response to accumulated stress. Working from the inside out, the hypothalamus and pituitary gland also come into play. Part of a Somatic Wellness Series, this workshop exercises body parts and systems through Dynamic Embodiment, integrating practices from Body-Mind Centering®, Yoga and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Breathing From the Heart: Somatic Anatomy® Workshop
Saturday, April 7th, 2-4pm
Instructors: Dana Davison and Lissa Michalak
Workshop Fee: $60
(Fulfills 2 credit hrs. of EP/BS requirement)

The heart is one of the most vital structures in the body. Its ability to survive and protect itself is unparalleled. This workshop explores the anatomical reasons behind its resilience, and how tapping into the heart organ and heart glands through physiology, visualization, breath work, sounding, touch and movement, can enhance the entire body's ability to recuperate and rebound. In Breathing from the Heart, one can find balance in giving and receiving, being active and being still, finding compassion for others and for oneself.

The Body in Translation
Saturday, April 7th, 4-6pm
Instructor: Dana Davison
Workshop Fee: $60
(Fulfills 2 credit hrs. of LMA requirement)

Laban scales facilitate different shapes and affinities for creating motifs. Moving to a poem and short story read in Russian and English, then from drawings of the story, this workshop examines the relationship between words and sound, languages and form, images and movement, exploring the impulses and reactions of these bodily translations, addressing the questions: How do we translate what we hear in a language we don't speak, into our bodies? How does the experience change when we understand the words? What happens when we see images of the story?
